Cut Energy Costs with Power Factor Correction

The conversation around Power Factor Correction is heating up in today’s economic climate. If you go to conduct a simple Google search of the term “Power Factor Correction” you will see two “Ad” listings on page #1.  Then on page #2, there are SEVEN.  This is the only search term I have seen where there was a paid ad listing on page 5.

Simple explanation is that energy efficiency and cost savings are hot topics right now.  Companies can’t change much about their location or environment and a complete retrofit to achieve an efficiency status is WAY too costly.  BUT, we are connected with companies daily to look at how their facilities can become energy efficient without breaking the bank through costly retrofitting, new equipment, and downtime associated with all the above.

Power Factor Correction is one such way that could, potentially, save thousands each month.

Power Factor Ratings are measured 0.01-1.00. A PF of 1.00 is equivalent to a perfect scenario, whereas the company uses every ounce of energy delivered to their facility. According to www.energy.gov a PF rating of anything above 0.95 is considered to be Energy Efficient

Power Factor Ratings are all over the board, but depending on the industry and facility usage certain averages play out.  In the facilities we’ve analyzed just in 2022 we have seen numbers ranging from 0.98 to 0.67.  To put it in blunt terms- if your facility is operating with a PF of 0.67 then 33% of the energy delivered to your service meter is being wasted, and being billed to your company.  Not only that, but somewhere in the fine print of the billing statement- you MAY have a low efficiency rating fee.  Not all energy companies charge this and may change from community to community.

Energy Efficiency Group conducts Power Factor Energy Audits as a complimentary service. Contact us at: www.powerfactorcorrection.net to get your company’s energy usage analyzed.
