Are you being charged a fee for a low “Power Factor” rating?

A Power Factor rating expresses how effectively a facility uses the electric power delivered by a utility company. It is the ratio of the actual power (KW) used by the customer divided by the total power (KVA) flowing to the facility.

Most utility companies will add an additional charge to the monthly electric bill if the power factor is lower than the threshold value listed in the utility’s electric schedule, usually 0.95.

For example, customers with a power factor below 95% may be charged an additional PF charge by the utility. On average, typical large commercial buildings operate at about 82-88% power factor, and many industrial facilities record a 60-85% power factor.

In the age of conservation and sustainability, Energy Efficiency Group helps companies of all sizes address low PF ratings through capacitor system installation thereby potentially saving thousands per month as well as wasted resources.

An energy audit and corresponding results are a free service. Even if you choose not to proceed with our process you will be given information to help you better understand how your facility uses power.
