A majority of company owners and facility managers are not aware of what their Power Factor number is. While some may know- even fewer know what it means. A general assumption could be: “a low power factor implies low power consumption, meaning a lower electricity bill”- which is far from correct.
Power Factor is an expression of energy efficiency. It is usually displayed on your monthly electric statement as a percentage- and the lower the percentage, the less efficient power usage is.
Having a low Power Factor will cause your monthly bills to be higher than they should be, but it may also cause ancillary problems like:
- Energy losses / wasted energy
- Motors may run hot causing fatigue and failure
- Poor voltage regulation
- Power company may impose a penalty
- Others…
If your power factor is under 0.90 (or 90%) we can help you save more and become more energy efficient. If you do not know what your power factor is, we can help.
